Different way of documenting

I have been exploring Travellers Notebooks recently as a different way to document thoughts, things I want to remember or reminisce about and having a “feel good” book of inspiration for when things are tough. I love that I can have different notebooks for different purposes and I can really break out and experiment with techniques or styles I haven’t tried before.  This isn’t the project I was going to share with you today but after a fun filled day with my family (and discovering there was no ink in the printer to print the photos for said project) this is the one you get instead.

This is a spread from my “Change” notebook where I am gathering supportive quotes for helping me to make some life changes.

The best thing about this layout was that I used up some of my sadly neglected Washi Tapes along with some paper strips.

I made the notebook myself and it measures 11 X 21 cm when closed. I’ve also made my own covers that hold 4 notebooks. Gotta love Youtube and the people who share their knowledge and creativity so freely.

Making a comeback with a sale!

Hi folks I know I have been missing in action for a long time this time but I have a note from the doctor and I’m now on the mend. I have been feeling “off” for a while, bone draggingly exhausted and generally quite rundown. I put it down to stress and ageing as many of us do when these kind of things creep up on you slowly. Then I got to feeling like my head was going to explode, my heart was pounding and I felt dizzy and sick. Time for a visit to the doctor where he said that our family history of high blood pressure had caught up with me. That explained so much! Its been a few weeks since that and medication is fixing things up nicely (the Doctor is very pleased) and I am regaining some energy and passion to get back to business. I would like to offer my huge apologies to my loyal readers and customers for my lack of content and communication but most days it was all I could do to get through the day. I can probably count on one hand how many times Ive picking up the stamps and loveliness I got from the Seasonal catalogue and used them. I have however started a new project which I will share with you tomorrow. In the meantime here is the NEWS! This is a long on so grab a cup of tea first

You wont believe….

You just will not believe how many scrapbook layouts and cards I have completed over the last 6 months that have not seen the light of day on my blog. I confess to you that I am quite ashamed I havent been blogging much (READ – barely at all) this year. No excuses Ive been rubbish at it. I have posted a bit more on my Facebook page and I even had a go at a wee short Facebook LIVE video. Need a much better set up than I have for that but hey who knows what the future holds!

I have been frequenting YouTube a lot more and have started following a few different creators, one of whom, is Dearly Dee. Its always nice to find a Youtuber from your own little country and Dee has inspired me no end. I have discovered Travellers Notebooks through her and have now made a pile of my own and started experimenting with them so watch this space. I love that I can use up lots of wee scraps of paper on them and that it feels much more “free” than a scrapbook page.

Anyway for all your patience I’m going to give you a little gallery of some of my scrapbook layouts. The photos are a bit shocking, really think I need a new camera but at least it gives you something to look at. Please do excuse the blobs and boxes, I’m just trying to protect the innocent!!

The Masked Butterfly

Hi folks just wanted to share the card demo’d at my party on Wednesday. It used a few techniques, Masking, sponging and collaged stamps. I love the effect and the sponging is so simple but looks really effective. You might remember I use it on this card back in January when I first played with my In This World stamp set.

Its a fun wee Z type fold.

Dont forget to place your SAB qualifying orders before the 31st.

One with me, using scraps

I loved  Jenifer Hignite’s layout as soon as I saw it and knew it would be a good one to CAS(E) . Her’s was a digital layout so much easier to line up all the strips but I dont think I did too bad a job thanks to my trusty metal ruler. Here is the layout

I used some old retired paper that I love but only had strips left ot. All the strips are 1″ wide and most started out as 2″ lengths. Here is how I used my ruler to line up the pieces as I glued them down.

p1090272You can see the narrow even strip on the left of the ruler, I just held the ruler steady and butted up the next column against the edge. Viola!

Butterfly Circles

I saw a similar card recently but cant find it again to credit the maker now. I thought it was such a visually effective card that I had to CASE it too. I do have an original idea now and then in case you are wondering but I am also inspired by the beautiful work other crafters produce. I do like to try an acknowledge where the inspiration came from but sometimes that not possible.

I’ve used In this World again and also Timeless Textures and for the Sentiment Love Sparkles.

I coloured the butterflies using Blender Pens and my ink pads. All you have to do is gently squeeze your ink pad when it is closed to transfer some ink to the inside of the lid and then use it like a palette to pick up the ink with the Blender Pen.

Beautiful Butterflies Card

This one is definitely going in my favourite cards pile, I love how it came out. The fussy cutting was a bit annoying because I cant find my fabulous Stampin’ Up! Scissors which are awesome for doing this but the effort was worth it.

Ive used the In This World stamp Set again and stamped all the images in Memento Tuxedo Black before using Sponges to colour them. The 4 ink colours I chose are Tempting Turquoise, Daffodil Delight, Pool Party and Elegant Eggplant. As I said the Butterflies are fussy cut and then I mounted them with Dimensionals over the a whole stamped image of the butterfly. Still love using my sponges to add colour. I love how it mixes and changes subtly.

Grandads Medals

I set myself the task of using the In This world Stamp Set to do a scrapbook page and I’m pretty pleased with how it came out. Not my usual style so another step outside of my comfort zone too.

Im still figuring out this “cluster” business but I think they look alright. Its finding the right way to combine them and have them looked layered and balanced.

p1090311Got a bit heavy handed with the red sprinkles from Gorgeous Grunge but otherwise not a bad layout. Did you notice that the patterned paper is actually from ” This Christmas Specialty DSP” pack? There are some great patterned papers in there that could be used for other occasions too so dont forget about those Christmas papers.
