Something NEW from something OLD

Another of my A&P Show entries. I had spotted a wreath someone had made using the paper that comes packed round our orders and thought how clever that was. After a bit of trial and error I got one plaited up and formed into a wreath shape : ) I also used that paper to layer together to forma thick mat to cut the hanging bit from.

For the flowers I wanted to use some other freely available coloured paper so thought about all those magazines my Mum gives passing on to me. Score! Glossy paper with lots of bright colours and you can use our punches on it if you punch out 3 or 4 pages at a time. I used the 2 3/8″ scallop circle, 1 7/8″ scallop Circle, Fancy Flower and the Blossom punches plus the Boho Blossom for the small flowers on the hanging part. Punch ’em, Scrunch ’em and Stitch ’em together with a button!

Work of He{ART}

This is the Canvas I created for my entry at the local A&P Show recently. It received not only a First but a special prize too : ) The canvas had to be minimum 8X8″ and have a 5X7 photo on it. Well the only canvas I had left in the cupboard (after Miss 15 nicked off with the rest to paint on) was a huge 18X18″ one so that was it. Then it was down to the thinking stage. What was I going to do to fill up such a huge space!

Its hard to appreciate the detail in this project. Each piece of the houses are hand drawn and cut then outlined and sponged. I started by Sketching out all of the houses straight onto the canvas then tracing each piece off and onto the various patterned papers.

I painted in the foreground and sprinkled it with Dazzling Diamonds, working it in a little in sections while the paint was still wet. The frame was finished with  a fabric trim and buttons on all four corners. To create the tree and grasses I snipped a fringe into small pieces of card then folded up the unsnipped section and glued in place behind the fanned out fringe. The flowers a punched using the Itty Bitty Punch Pack and then given some dimension with tweezers. I made wee “bricked” planter boxes for the peach tree and grasses.

Dont you love the wee froggy button in the corner. I enjoyed putting interesting wee touches for people to discover as they looked at the canvas. Spread over the canvas are 4 black cats, we do have 4 but they arent all black!

I sponged in the sky and then painted in some clouds which were again sprinkled with Dazzling Diamonds. The basket of the balloon was created with a dimensional paint which I also used for some of the house and fence detail too. All of the tree pieces were embossed using the new Woodgrain embossing folder.

The most important part of course is the photo which takes pride of place in the middle. I used part of a quote, stamped and embossed with White on Early Espresso COREdinations cardstock to frame the photo. The rest of the quote 3rd photo. The alphabets are Broadsheet Alphabet and the retired Rough Type one. Now I just have to get it hung up in my room so I can see my families smiling faces every morning when I wake up.

Fast and Furious Fabulousness

It was also my Mum’s birthday last week so I got to make a grown up card and because it was my Mum it had to be something quite fabulous so I tried a new fancy fold! This one is called the Twisted greeting card and I learnt it from a video by Kelly Gettlefinger. You can watch her Youtube video here. I will definitely have to have a go at more of these ones. Did I mention I had less than an hour to create this hence the Fast and furious in the post title : )

I wanted to use some of my new stash too so the DSP is from Comfort Cafe in the Annual catalogue, the Midnight Muse die cut is from the Apothecary Accents Framelits die set and I used the Scalloped tulle ribbon from the Holiday Catalogue too. Here is the inside

Where Angels Fear to Tread

That used to be my disorganised messy office but no more ( well only a little bit). Eldest Daughter and I have traded rooms and things are looking a lot better in my crafting paradise! But that wasnt actual what I was going to share with you LOL. Here is my Angel Name badge that I made for last Saturday’ s Stampin’ Up! Heartfelt Event. Took me about 3 hours to think up and create but she is gorgeous!

She is made using petals from the Blossom Petal Punch which I scrunched up screwed up and generally tenderised! Each petal is wired and the arms have one through them to hold them out. The head is made using brushed gold cardstock and is a hand rolled bead on a skewer which I used to stabilise the body. Here is another view:

Heartfelt Event Card

Last Saturday I attended the Stampin’ Up Heartfelt Stampin’ Event. It was great fun catching up with lots of other demonstrators I have met through the years as well as my own team ladies and wider team members. We had some great Presentations by some very talented ladies and they kept me busy writing notes on all they had to show and tell us. I certainly learnt some new things like when you using the Simply Scored Board you should work from right to left when scoring otherwise your scores wont be true as the card stock moves in slightly when scored!! Thanks Julia. We didnt have swaps this time but they were plenty of examples of work with many of the new products and gorgeous they were too! Instead of making lots of a design and swapping we were encouraged to create a card etc and share it on a board. Here is what I came up with.

And a close up of the flower and sentiment…..

Now here is what you need to recreate this beauty!

* New* Raspberry Ripple A5 topfold card blank (this is one of the new In Colours !)

First Edition and Twitterpated DSP packs (both of which carried over from last year)

Vintage Wallpaper Embossing Folder

*New* Apothecary Accents Framelits dies (FOUR different shapes in this pack check out page 191 0f the Annual catalogue)

Large Oval, Blossom Petals, Scallop Border Punches plus the Blossom  which I used to make the flower

Cherry Cobbler Bakers Twine and Victoria Crochet Trim

Fabulous Phrases Stamp Set.

Sanding Block ( thats why the blue embossed DSP looks different, I gave it a wee gentle sanding after it was embossed)

Raspberry Ripple, Certainly Celery and Soft Suede inks to sponge and stamp with and sponges of course!

Very Vanilla and Basic Grey cardstock

Dont you love the curly tendrils? Do you remember making those long curly strips using magazine pages and a pencil? Well I sure do and it worked a treat! Tomorrow I will show you my work of art name tag I made for the Christchurch Heartfelt Event so be good and I will see you tomorrow.

P.S if you would like me to email you a discount voucher for this weekends Dunkleys Craft Show in Christchurch just email me at moocowgen@ihug.co.nz

Flowerpots and Fun Days

Just a quick reminder about tomorrows Fun Day. BYO stamps and projects, a plate for lunch and $5 for hall hire. Try out my Big Shot and I will do a couple of demonstrations during the day too.

I have been making a special order up this week. The lovely Nicky wanted some flowerpot cards. Take a look

Dont you love the flowers in Concord Crush and Wisteria Wonder! I used some vellum paper to layer over the Butterflies to add a special touch. To punch this paper I put a sheet of computer paper with it otherwise the vellum jammed and ripped : (

The stamp set I’ve used is Cottage Garden. Here is the tag which slides inside the pot.

Happy Birthday to my girl

Last week saw my eldest daughter turning 15! She is my Got To Girl when I create something new so I had to make her a special card.

I got this fab new set My Friend (Page 85 of the IB & C) when I got a promotion bonus recently. The butterflies are from the Kindness Matters set (Page 71) and the frame is from the Tagtastic Hostess Set on page 11. The sentiment is from Petite Pairs on page 105 which was also part of me Promotion bonus splurge!! Add the Scallop Circle die, Elegant Lines Embossing folder, Boho Blossoms punch, Curly Label Punch, Dazzling Diamonds, Rhinestones and Crystal Effects and you have all the supplies for creating this card.

And on the back. My girl loved it which made Mummy happy too.

Wee Gran

This was one of the projects I displayed at Dunkleys. Its a small canvas of my Great Grandmother, who was a tiny woman hence she was our Wee Gran.

The DSP is from the Newsprint pack and I over stamped it using So Saffron ink and the  the block pattern stamp from Clearly for you then over stamped that with a few of the butterflies in Soft Suede. The canvas was inked with a sponge with Melon Mambo Ink and then the edge covered with satin ribbon.

The flower Bouquet is nested in a V formed by ripping the paper down and curling it back. The flowers are all handmade from Stampin’ Up! Punches. The White ones are single  and the pink ones doubled layers of the cross flower from the Itty Bitty Punch set which is making a come back in the new IB&C so Yippee! The larger yellow ones from the Boho Blossoms Punch. I used floral art stamens to add a special touch, the petals were all painted with a touch of Shimmer Paint for a subtle dazzle. Of course the flowers have all been tweaked into shape with my trusty tweezers! I stamped and cut out a few of the butterflies to add depth and the title is layered die cut letters.

Something to make or cook

That was the day 5 theme

Yvonne sent me kits to stamp and make up these 3 projects. Pretty cool designs actually I was pleased with the 3 D detail on the fancy fold card.

I sent her some Hot chocolate mix and marshmallows to go in it. The marshmallows did actually change before Yvonne got this one thanks to some little sticky fingers who fancied a marshmallow or two.** Insert Grumpy Mummy face here**

Here is a close up of the flower on top I used the faux suede technique on the cardstock after punching out with the Fancy Flower Punch.
